What is theology and why is it necessary?

Theology at it’s root Scriptural influence is a reason or account of God. It involves two words –Theos meaning God and Logos meaning reason or account. The reason or account given in Theology is given in the light of the fact that God has revealed himself to us in Christ. And so Jesus and the gospels remain a clear foundation in all theological study.

Central to theology, then, given Jesus’ teaching on the Holy Spirit and the central revelation of God the Holy Spirit to the apostles, is the Holy Trinity and the Scriptures. The Scriptures are the pages from which all doctrinal and thematic structure are founded, as it is first realized that God himself has breathed into man and enabled him to record them in a final canon, and later to teach and preach them as a body of truth.

ANTC is of the view that apostolic and episcopal churches and Colleges that go by the name of Christian must be conditioned and fashioned in their corporate and strategic aims through an engagement with theology. Theology, although academic, is not an academic game- it is a matter of the life or death of the church. When it is treated lightly or with invective then the church must be reminded that it is her business to ensure that it influences the academy and the world with the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Theology is vital to establish sound faith and doctrine in order that the foundations of a church can have long life. From theological resource the church prepares people for Christian ministry, and equips them and encourages them to continue in that ministry.

Glory to God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.

The setting of the study of Theology at All Nations

All Nations Tutorial College is a theological College in the thorough sense. Theology, as defined above under the guideline of Scripture, is the general authority structure by which all subjects are weighed and assessed. Of course this does not mean that national exam boards are replaced, but rather expresses belief that God illuminates all knowledge and wisdom in any field of enquiry.

Language and science

Language and science are two general skills required for all academic study. The growth of science in the modern era has presented challenges to a College, such as All Nations that roots itself more in within a linguistic frame of reference than a scientific one, referencing as it does Scripture as the primary authority.

The idea of political and social science is taken seriously and it is believed that real personal objectivity can be gained in the humanities. True language represents reality measurably and extends meaning.
